Last weekend we sent 10 members of our team up to Sail Sand point in Seattle for the annual Northwest clinic. We just got back from a fun weekend up in Bellingham for the Jeff Mixdorf Regatta, despite a noticeable lack of wind for sailing. Jeff Mixdorf is an interesting regatta because everyone sails in Alphas, which are a Western Washington designed and produced double handed boat resembling an FJ. We had our final regatta of the Fall season last weekend. We sent 7 sailors up to Bellingham to race on Lake Whatcom for the Frosh/Soph Regatta (first- and second-year sailors only). Eight of our sailors spent Halloween weekend in Eugene, OR for the Outlaw Regatta. The first day the winds were very light and by the afternoon the wind had dropped off completely, making the downwind leg of B fleet's final race last roughly one hour--a true test of patience. Yesterday we returned from the North/North Regatta in Seattle. We had 2 boats, and 10 sailors, so we rotated crew throughout the races. On Saturday we saw lots of rain and varying winds, but also a spectacular rainbow. "North by North" is the first NWICSA district regatta of the academic season which is hosted by University of Washington in Seattle.
